Speaking Without Talking?

When we communicate with other people, be it over a regular analog telephone, a call over IP, or a mobile phone, there is one thing fundamentally in common with all these methods: it requires speaking. That's great for those of us that can do it, but what about those who can't?
Folks at the Ambient Corporation have apparently figured out a way for people to simply think about talking, and it happens. LiveScience reports a demonstration of this technology. While it does not have a full vocabulary, they believe that by the end of the year, it will.
Pair this technology with something like IVONA's text-to-speech technology, and you could have something really interesting. But the real question is: how well will it sound over VoIP?
