iPhone Dev Team has announced (some time back) their free carrier unlock for iPhone3G/3GS owners with a baseband later than 05.13.04. The unlock seem to work except for some caveats like GPS not working.

As always, these type of unlocks at your own risk. Some people will brick their phones some people succeed…
